The NFL New York Jets and US National Guard approached TFG and film director Rocky Jo to help create one of the most epic and patriotic digital advertising spots ever for the Jets digital marketing campaign. This would require coordinating with a dozen F-16 Falcon fighter jets and various officials and pilots of 177th Fighter Wing at Atlantic City Air National Base in New Jersey. Rocky would need to make sure his film production crew and camera units were spot on with pinpoint filmmaking, as once the F-16s blasted off the runway, there wouldn’t be another chance to film them.
With proper safety protocol and zones all approved in advanced, Rocky expertly led his crew to first capture all the hero shots up close of the gorgeous $14 million machine, working with cinematographer Chris Lytwyn. Rocky’s goal was to create a spot that felt like a blockbuster movie with dramatic angles and sweeping dolly shots. These cinematic shots would be paralleled to patriotic and heroic shots of the New York Jets, showing how they proudly carry a natural bond with our nation’s heroes.
Under immense pressure with an aggressive schedule, the day geared up as the the team was on point with every camera setup. Finally the take-off came, and the camera teams got as close as they could to the jets as Falcons rode by them. The engines roared and the blast of heat could be felt as fire spewed out their tail. In the end, the F-16s took off without a hitch, and the video production teams were able to capture a barrage of gorgeous footage.
With 2 camera units and more than 100 people involved to make this project possible, Rocky is grateful for his film crew, the New York Jets organization, and the officials and soldiers that made this production so successful. In the end, both organizations were ecstatic with the final digital advertising spots, and to this day, this shoot remains as one of Rocky’s most memorable achievements.
