The NHL Atlanta Thrashers was looking to create a fast-flying hard-hitting TV commercial video for their gameday spot, so reached out to the TFG and film director Rocky Jo. With expert creativity, Rocky wanted to show case various heroic shots of the athletes themselves while intercutting their in-game highlights. His goal was to not only remind people of the excitement each game brings, but also glorify the players in a dramatic light, all under an icy-blue Thrasher theme.
Filming took place in Atlanta Georgia in a frigid ice rink as Rocky and his production 20-person crew filmed athlete after athlete while trying not to freeze. The challenge was working with the equipment without the use of gloves in order to operate the camera equipment and lights. Furthermore, the entire crew couldn’t (and didn’t want to) wear ice skates for safety precautions and carrying heavy gear. Ironically, in order to go faster, Rocky had the entire team go slower, so they could avoid falls and equipment mishaps. The video production proved to be incredibly successful, and as a result – the Atlanta Thrashers were ecstatic with the gameday commercial video spot.
